How To Develop A Mindset For Business

What I would like to do within this blog post is to help you to operate with a business mindset and also identify the limiting beliefs that may show up in the process.

When I started out in this digital online space I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to face being in this online space.

Mindset Issues That Showed Up

  • Limiting beliefs
  • Scarcity mindset
  • Comparison to entrepreneurs who were in the same industry.
  • Confidence issues

At first, I didn’t recognize this as a mindset issue because I was good at doing things behind the scenes, but when I had to put myself out there I questioned myself.

  1. Is my service as good as my competitors
  2. Can I sell my services at a competitive price
  3. Will people pay me for this service
  4. Have I researched my industry enough to provide the content my audience needs?

Those question above had me stuck in creation mode, not putting myself out there for fear that I was not as good as the entrepreneur who was making six figures or more, so I would be caught up in posting photos to my Instagram account but not leading my followers anywhere to connect with me on a deeper level.

I see this so much across social media, there are those who believe they are entrepreneurs but have not fully stepped into making it a reality because of limiting beliefs that have them stuck in creation mode but not making a commitment to see it through.

What I am learning on this journey to equip entrepreneurs on their journey especially those who are just starting out in this space is to deal with mindset issues upfront.

Becoming An Entrepreneur

Let me give you a clear definition of what entrepreneurship is.

Entrepreneurship: the activity of setting up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.

With this definition, it states that I am going to take on financial risk hopes to make my business become profitable. And this is where many entrepreneurs get stuck.

They focus more on what they are going to lose instead of what they are going to learn, which will better equip them to make better decisions.

If you are at a 9-5 job you face financial risks every day, you don’t know the financial state that your job is in, you don’t know if your job will be there tomorrow and yet many individuals think they are playing it safe when it comes to a job.

I’m not saying don’t utilize your job to become your private investor to fund your business venture until you’re bringing in a steady income and then you can cut the cord.

I would rather take my chances on myself than thinking that a company is going to be around to provide me with a check that is still not enough to pay my bills.

Having A Business Mindset

Entrepreneurs who have allowed the process to stretch and grow them know that you can’t be in business without risks and they prepare their mindset for setbacks and they don’t look at it as a failure but as a teachable moment.

Having a business mindset means holding yourself accountable to do the work and not make any excuses or procrastinate their way out of being responsible.

Entrepreneurs who truly want to live a life of freedom must make a commitment to themselves to follow through on their business goals and objectives even when they don’t feel like it.

  1. They register their business
  2. Set up their business goals & objectives
  3. Create solutions through their products and services
  4. Create a weekly work schedule
  5. Outsource what they need help with, (website, graphic design, coach, training program)

Without these things in place can you say you are truly in business or is it just a hobby? Your mindset will run your business and you have to begin to think like a business owner and not an employee.
