FOMO is a marketing strategy that speaks to a person’s fear of missing out on an opportunity that they might not get again. (Fear Of Missing Out)

This marketing strategy has been used for many many years, in hopes that you as a consumer or business owner would buy into the fear that this next purchase is the purchase that you need to

1. lose weight

2. make money

3. Grow your audience etc…..

This marketing strategy deals with the psychology that others are having a rewarding experience that you are missing out on.

FOMO marketing causes the consumer to experience a type of anxiety that if you miss out on the supposed thing, then you are not.

1. In the know

2. Socially Ept

3. Keeping up with the Kardashians (I  mean the Jones’s 😃)

When you look at commercials or brands on social media, that tell you if you drink this drink, or wear these clothes, or vacation at this place then you are living a dream life that many don’t get to experience, so to be apart of that “Society” buy this and you will have a better life.

How many of you excuse my french, know that is a bunch of bull?

But how many of you have brought into that type of marketing whether as a consumer or an entrepreneur?

The key strategies to overcome FOMO marketing is to set smart goals in place.

How does FOMO effect you as an Entrepreneur?

How many

1. Webinars have you purchased?
2. Conferences you’ve attended?
3. Boot-camps you’ve purchased?
4. Books you’ve purchased all through FOMO marketing?

The next question, have you put any of these tools, programs, and checklists into action where you’ve seen significant change within your business?

The Goal of FOMO marketing is relying on your fear, anxiety, and an experience that you may miss out on if you don’t respond accordingly. You make decisions based on your fears, (which is never a good thing to do).  As an emerging entrepreneur and business leader you should make sound decisions that are good for the health and growth of your business.

What I don’t understand is this “positive mindset” movement.  There are self-development/business coaches who speak to you in over-coming your fears, self-defeating mindsets and limiting beliefs, but will use FOMO marketing to speak to those same fears that they claim they are trying to help you overcome, this is hypocrisy at its finest.

Will you as an entrepreneur run your business based on fear tactics? So how do you overcome this marketing strategy so that you don’t get pulled into the hype? Knowing who you are and where you are in your journey as an entrepreneur is vital to the success of your business.

I hope this blog post has enlightened you to see how negative FOMO marketing is, and those who practice this marketing strategy do they really have your best interest in mind or their bottom line?
