Planning: The first thing before creating your website is to plan accordingly.
- Who is the content for (moms, entrepreneurs, millennials, bloggers, beauty/fashion enthusiasts?
- What content will you create? (video, blogs, podcasts)
- What hosting company will you use? (this is important because choosing a cheap hosting company is not always good, when you want your website to load quickly, I use wpxhosting and I love them, click on the link (it’s an affiliate link at no cost to you.)
- What type of layout or theme will you use? (Will you use a theme builder or template)
These are important questions when you decide that you want to have a website, a lot of hard work goes into it, so make sure you are up to the task.
Color Scheme & Images
Choose high quality images for your website along with fonts and the overall color scheme of your website. Here is a list of resources to choose from.
- Dafont (free fonts for business and personal use)
- Smashingmagazine (articles on how to use color on your website)
- Pexels Stock free photos
- Creativemarket (a platform for creatives)
Website Policies What are your privacy policies (WordPress has a plugin that helps you to fill in the blanks with your info)
- What is your customer service policy
- Do you allow refunds?
- Do you allow exchanges?
- Do you give only credit and no refunds?
- Do you have a money-back guarantee? (for how many days)
- How do you correct the problem if the product is damaged once the customer receives it?
- Do you have a restocking fee?
You should have a clear customer service policy in place especially if you sell physical products that you create.
For service based businesses where the service is intangible your policy should include.
- Agreements between parties on how the project will be implemented.
- Completion date of project( include disclaimer based on materials or information you may need from client, you cannot complete a project in a timely manner if they are not communicating or providing what is needed)
- Deposits required before work can began (is the deposit non-refundable state that in the agreement/contract)
- How many revisions will you allow for changes (state that in the agreement/contract)
Include working hours (this will prevent clients from calling multiple times of the night) set structure in your business.
Include in the agreement how you will follow up with them on the project (include days and time)
I suggest using email to send documentation and communicating via email and not texting. (this allows you to have backup of anything discussed so there is no miscommunication.
Website Pages
Your website should include an about me page where visitors can get to know you and who you service. Include your mission statement and how you plan to change or transform those who visit your website.
