Why Your Social Media Marketing Isn’t Working
Social media is supposed to be the definitive content marketing channel solution, right? But many business owners are discovering it’s easier said than done. Here are a few reasons your social media strategy may not be working.
Social media is supposed to be the definitive content marketing channel solution, right? But many business owners are discovering it’s easier said than done. Here are a few reasons your social media strategy may not be working.
You’re not advertising. Yes, social media is free, whereas traditional advertising can cost lots of money. But even so, you have to realize that social media engagement with organic posting is inherently weak—people are overly bombarded by the items in their feed. With social media ads, you can target specific users and secure a noticeable spot in the feed, yielding more click-through action
You’re hacking too much. Despite the seductive words of internet gurus and content marketing professionals, there is no get-rich-quick solution to social media content marketing. Building a solid presence takes time, patience, and quality material. You can try all the backend hacks you want, but the social media venues have watchdogs to monitor that activity. If they deem it shady, it will reduce the health score of your profile, making it harder for you to market.
You’re not interacting. It’s called social media for a reason! Even monolithic mega-giants like Disney and Coca-Cola have social teams that interact with users making comments on their pages and forums. If you’re going to build brand loyalty on a social media platform, you have to interact with your followers by commenting on their posts and pictures, and responding to their comments and likes..
You’re not using data. There are plenty of programs out there that can help you mine user data, which can help you better refine your target audience. This type of software can help you understand who interacts with your brand, and what demographics are potentially most interested in what you have to offer. Without leveraging that info, you’re kind of just shooting in the dark.
You’re not making good content. From pictures to textual posts, what grabs attention on social media is good content. Learn about what will get eyes to stop and click on a link, and if you can’t figure it out, employ someone who can.
You don’t have a social media plan. Having a social media plan is of the utmost importance, if there are no plans in place how will you determine when you’ve reached your goals, how will you track and measure what is working and what isn’t? Don’t skip on the planning stages.
Not being consistent. not showing up on your social media channels, this will kill your credibility with your followers, showing up sporadically will hurt your business this is why you need to have a plan in place so you can consistently execute on your immediate tasks.
You’re doing all the work. You heard it right…the best social media marketing comes about when other people market your product or service. Utilize brand ambassadors they can collectively reach out to a wider audience who is already following their brand and they can give that seal of approval that puts your products & services in front of other audiences.
We are now living in a world where we now have to find creative ways to do and grow our business. There are many business owners who are now put in a position to learn how to utilize social media to grow their business now that we are under worldwide quarantine.
You as an entrepreneur should be learning how to use this online tool to the best of your ability.
Knowing Your Audience
I did a Facebook live recently and stated how important it is to know who your audience is and how to speak their language in order to get their attention focused on your business.
Knowing your audience online takes time, for those who have brick and mortar businesses you may have received a fair amount of foot traffic to support the business, but now that our world has changed you now have to adapt to reaching your audience in a way that you’re not used to.
Now that we are faced with a new normal we must be entrepreneurs that know how to shift and have backup plans in place to prepare ourselves for when the economy faces a downward spiral.
Growing your online following is more than just doing facebook lives or post instagram photos, what are you doing to capture email signups, what offers do you have in place in the instance someone is ready to buy.
Vanity metrics doesn’t equate to dollars and cents, you can have ten thousand followers but make no money because either your not:
- Creating Calls To Actions
- Asking your audience how can you help them via your products or services.
- Having a repeatable system in place to capture leads like a CRM (customer relationship management) this lets you know what the customer has purchased, when and what other product or service you can offer them in the future now that they have purchased from your business.
Social Media Marketing
There are many strategies when it comes to marketing your business, but this must be something that you are consistently doing. You should take your clues from tv commercials such as Macy’s and well known brands, they create sales around seasons as well.

Social media is more than just posting great information; it’s letting your audience know that you are the go to resource for the specific problems that you solve to make their life less stressful and if they want to go deeper to receive a specific result you have the product or service to assist them with that.
Don’t be afraid to ask for the sale, if you work a nine to five job and at the end of the pay period if your money wasn’t in your account would you go to your boss and ask for your money?
Absolutely!!! So why do you put in so much time in research and creating content and products but afraid to put it out there, knowing all the hard work you put behind it? You are not begging anyone to purchase from you, you’re letting them know if they have a problem you are the person who can help them solve it.
This changes your whole perspective when it comes to sales, because you are talking to the people who want to take action to get the results they desire.
In closing social media is about building relationships through your content, but it’s also about creating a stream or multiple streams of income from something that you love to do and learning how to navigate this landscape will equip you to become a better digital marketer.
